Flesh - Temple of Whores - 65%

MutilationRites, August 18th, 2007

Flesh is an almost brand new band from Sweden playing old school death metal who seem to be loaded with material as they skipped the demo process and are on their third full length since 2005. This band does a good job of winning the approval of just about anyone who appreciates old school death metal, including myself. So anyways, let's take a look at their second release, Temple of Whores.

This is one of those CD's that has a good production, but uses a really dirty and raw sound which can work great sometimes but not end up so good other times. I think Flesh missed slightly with this album production, not quite achieving the sound that really compliments their style. The reason is that the sound can be too muddy to quite make out the guitars, but it still leaves out a really raw quality that would make up for it.

The riffing is done pretty well, and he uses leads sparingly but very effectively. The songwriting is good from song to song, but the album as a whole really lacks variety in terms of tempo and keys and things like that. So basically sometimes you'll feel like you're listening to the some song over and over. There just aren't quite enough highlights and memorable moments. There really isn't even that much else to say about this CD, it's very average. This was a little disappointing because I think Flesh is a very notable band in death metal that seems to be very hardworking. Check them out and see what you think for yourself, maybe you'll like this album more than I did.
