Abominant - Triumph of the Kill - 60%

Phuling, April 23rd, 2008

I’ve listened to this album many, many times over now. Sometimes you get this record that’s not bad, it’s not good, it just leaves you a bit “untouched” so to say. For being the band’s seventh fullength you’d hope for a bigger impact, but this doesn’t really do anything. No chills and thrills nor smell of hell.

Abominant are no rookies (as already stated), but if you didn’t know this were their seventh album you’d easily hear that they are competent musicians. The song-writing’s good, the music flows smoothly, it’s technical and brutal yet melodic. But as I said it just doesn’t do anything for me. I mean, it’s ok; I might even go as far as to say good, but it still comes out as a bit bland. Nevertheless they surely are competent. The productions is ok, it’s fairly clean but also a bit weak. He, as you might notice I’m a bit confused!

These Americana’s mix the typical US death metal with old school, and I dare even say a bit of thrash. Both faster blasting and slow, slick bits are used, creating a varied, but boring, album. It’s ok, but nothing more. But before I go I just have to say this; who the hell approved the label artwork? It looks like a child drew it!
