Invention : Destruction

While I was totally blown away by the debut and follow-up EP of this aussie grind supergroup, Invention:Destruction is admittedly a bit of a letdown on all fronts. The production is comparable to that found on Slow Death By Grinding, and in turn dispels the raw, gritty punch that made Le Mort so ridiculously heavy and enjoyable. The riffing is as simplistic as previous efforts, but has been slowed down considerably; while the thick, meaty grooves are still present, for the first time I found myself with a strong desire to hit skip during the bulk of the album.

While songs like the heralding "Cut", "Beat", and "Rack" are capable of sending copious amounts of broth spewing from my often underwhelmed "rawk gland", tracks like "Burn", "Crush", and "Press" totally flounder. Prehaps the biggest disappointment is the total squandering of Damaged frontman Jamie's multifaceted vocal talents. I'm finding it hard to imagine he'd be willing to tour with these guys considering how little he contributes to the track "Shock"...

If I had my way, the modestly titled "In" would be replaced by a loop of various yawns of differing intensity and sarcasm if you catch my drift. TDEBN seems to appeal to a suprisingly wide demograph (and have thusfar stayed true to their musical direction) so I'm sure there are tons of fans who will eat this release up like it was slathered in nutella. It's not a bad album by any means, I just don't think it's on par with the band's preceding body of work and registers as half-assed a little too often for my liking.

This is the third album from these depraved Aussie goregrinders. But grind feels like sort of a wrong word to use, as you might associate it with screechy guitars and blistering speed, which is not the case here. What The Day Everything Became Nothing offers is ultra heavy, super down-tuned, churning and hammering, sludgy gore. It’ll grind you down into the soil, bury you deep down in the dark. But it won’t be with raging blast beats, but with the most destructive, groovy riffing known to mankind. The deep, sinister growling will have you on your knees, crying like a little child. The extremely brutal vocals, be it growl or obscure screams, combined with the ultra heavy sound of the music will have you banging your head non-stop. And you’ll keep headbanging, rocking back and forth, until you’ve set yourself in a trance, absolutely mesmerized by the monstrous riffing. There are a few outbursts where the music goes apeshit and blasts away like crazy. But no matter what, I can’t stop rocking back and forth.

If there’s one album that’ll send you into a murderous fury, a blind rage, then it’s Invention: Destruction. A devastating display of monstrous, rigorous riffing, mind-altering, lobotomising vocals and ritualistic drumming.

TDEBN are an Australian Gore/Grind band, that is pretty much up-tempo, chuggy, with many catchy and chunjy riffs, that you must bang your head to. Already their Full Lenght from 2003, LE MORT, made me a fan of this band, and the new release is even a biggerhit. Every self-respected and mentally instable Gore/Grind and Grindcore freak must have either one of these releases, else he should start listening to ZZ Top. In TDEBN you will find members of Blood Duster, Fuck...I'm Dead and The Kill, all kick-ass Grind bands from the Aussie continent, so this promises a fun and entertaining listening. TDEBN is simple, catchy, groovey and killer Gore/Grind. And just because it's simply played, but with some crazy rhythms and breaks, you will get easy into it, and get hard away from it. None of the songs on INVENTION:DESTRUCTION is of less quality than the rest, since these guys tend to make each song a killer. This release lacks of the maniacal blast beats and screamings most Grindcore bands are known for, and it lacks stupid, senseless parts, that are mostly just a blastbeat and screaming, in fact, all the same shit. TDEBN is a great band, with more than just potential. They have found the right way of making Gore/Grind interesting again, making it a certain style in Metal music, and giving it their special touch, just like Carcass did. Maybe there will be a hype about this band in some 5, or 10 years, and they will generate a whole wave of TDBN-copy/paste bands, that will copy the style of this band. This is a perfect album, for parties, hang outs, weed conversations, chilling and fucking. This is a perfect album in every way. So enjoy it, bitches!
