Thanatos - Angelic Encounters

Classic Death Metal - 95%

stonedjesus, September 28th, 2007

Thanatos is a very consistent band, in regards to their sound, style and quality of recording. Angelic Encounters is a great example of their ability to mesh formerly prominent thrash metal influences with newer death metal standards. This is a death metal album, crossing the red and black abyss that is Possessed influenced high speed drilling and more modern touches of bands such as Asphyx.

I love a death/thrash band that knows when to shut up and play, when to slow down and when to speed up. Thanatos is handcrafted and tried and true in ethics and aesthetics, this is an experienced band. A sixteen year effort at this point in history.

Excellent guitar playing and tone, these guitarists know how to write a pure death metal riff. Bass and drumming is far from the modern blasting you'd expect, leaving the guitars and bass to do all the work... While the excellent vocal performance leads these waves of metal riffing to and fro. Evil is an atmosphere that should be left to professionals such as Thanatos. They do a perfect job. This is pure death metal with admirable old school style and high energy songwriting.

Don't overlook this band, you'll be doing a pathetic disgrace to your very soul. Fans of Asphyx, Massacre, Possessed, and Sinister will do well to grace themselves with this unholy experience.
