Cryptic Revelation - The Truth Is Out There

Impressive - 90%

A band that has been around as long as Cryptic Revelation has and only has one EP out doesn’t really deserve long commentary so I should keep this short. Anyway, despite a lack luster discography these guys are damn good. The vocals are perfect as far as I am concerned: sharp, low as hell, articulate (in a musical sense not pronunciation), heavy… pretty brutal stuff. The guitars are excellent and so is the drumming. Production is also excellent everything sounds great. As for style, its pretty straight forward most of the time: guttural vocals, your basic death metal guitar stuff with solos and leads every here and there, drum blasting, they don’t use bass enough but since almost no bands do I wont hold that against them. Tempo is usually pretty fast, they slow it down every once in a while but it’s still good. They do a few things that are breaking the mold, but not much stands out apart from an interesting underlying band philosophy (the whole CD is songs about famous unexplained phenomenon with linear note about each event).
However, just because this band isn’t doing anything new doesn’t mean they don’t stick out. This CD is a great listen and one of my favorite death metal CDs, better then most big names in the scene. There are no boring parts here, nothing cheesy, nothing bland, predictable, pretty much if you like death metal you will like this CD, you won’t be at a huge lose without it but it is defiantly worth picking up should you find it.
