Deamon - Descend Dethrone

Amazing death metal!!! - 100%

AbitovslothReborn, September 14th, 2012

Deamon is a very good death metal band that no one has ever heard of from my understanding, and it is a shame they do not get a lot of recognition. Descend Dethrone is full of amazing death metal brutality, so good that I can listen to this album on repeat and it never gets old.

I picked up this album from browsing Hells Headbangers late one night and I was just coming across weird bands no one has ever heard of. And up came Deamon the cover looked cool so I checked it out on youtube, and damn...it was some good stuff. So I had to pick this up and give it a full listen cause I was anxious for more. When it arrived about a week later, I immediately popped into my laptop and listened.

The album begins with an amazing opener Rise, which was the first song I listened to when I sampled on youtube. This gives you the vibe that the album is gonna be very brutal, heavy, fast and somewhat technical. Probably one of the best openers I have heard in a long time. This feel always returns on every song. it never let's up, Deamon will not give you a break. Many people probably don't like the music being all fast, but some songs have really nice breaks, very well done breaks might I add. That are at medium pace and let the music breathe a bit, this doesn't ruin the feel of the album at all. But the vibe of they wanna kick your ass always returns in the songs which just makes them even more enjoyable.

The overall sound of the instruments it very nice, also has good production not too sloppy or too clean. The guitars are nice low tuned and heavy as fuck. Chris Malone and Ron McLean do a fantastic job on the riffing, leads and solos, very memorable and catchy as hell. As for the bass, I will admit isn't very audible...but I was able to surpass this small flaw and not let it ruin this masterpiece of death metal. Don't get me wrong, I do like the bass to be present...but sometimes I let things slide. But if you are big into bass, this might be a issue for you. The drumming is outstanding and I will say is probably one of my favorite things on the album. It is very tight, precise and well played. I personally love the tightly tuned snare drum, that is my favorite kind of sound for death metal drums and it works just so well. Shawn Carrier is without a doubt very talented at what he does. Now onto the vocals, I love them! to me they are unique especially the higher ends. Which sound very good and are a nice change of delivery in some cases. The main style of singing going on are low gutturals, Which are nicely pulled off and fit with the rest of the music.

So in conclusion, this a masterpiece of death metal. I'd highly recommended this to any brutal death metal or normal death metal fan. It is full of sheer excellence and amazing musicianship. From what it says the album is limited to 2000 copies, but I was able to pick up a copy 6 years later. Which is a shock to me, but if you are looking for a new death metal band to put your ears to. Then Deamon is right up your alley, you will not be disappointed.

Outstanding Brutal DM - 100%

MorturomDemonto, March 10th, 2007

Deamon is a Brutal DM band native to my home city, Ottawa. I have seen them live a couple of times, and that's how I found out about them. Really, Deamon is exactly what Brutal DM should be. They should be the ones setting an example for all those ridiculous bands who over-brutalize thier music with pitch-shifted-vocals and extremely low, down-tuned guitars.

Deamon really deserve to be known in the Canadian DM scene. I mean, like I can't emphasize on how much these guys just absolutely rip. Their form of Brutal DM is actually fun and entertaining, it is something I can sit down and listen through the entire album, and not be turned off after three songs like such bands as Devourment (a band I love, however, only in small quantities).

I will first start off with the guitars. Cory and Ron do an amazing job on this album. The guitars are quick, witty and they change non-stop. Cory's fretwork is amazing. Cory is an amazing guitarist. Just listen to his solos. I mean this guy can shred like hell. And the riffs are always different. They never cease changing. The vocals are guttural, but not ridiculous like (insert absurd band here) and you can make out what Cory growls. You can hear the bass somewhat, however this is the whole problem with extreme music: from time and time again, the bass in unclear. However at some points you can hear it, which is good. The drums are very good on this album. A lot of thrashing and grinding. Shawn finds himself most of the time blasting and beating his way through the songs.

I must say if you consider yourself a true hardcore fan of Brutal DM or just Canadian DM in general, then pick this album up. I garantee you will not be disapointed.
