Maggots / Meat Yard - Meatyard / Maggots

Meatyard / Maggots - 75%

Phuling, April 23rd, 2008

This gruesome split opens with a truly old school gore-vibe reminiscing the days of Autopsy and Impetigo. Apparently these guys have been going at it for 10 years now in the New Zealand underground, but this is my first time experiencing the gut wrenching, gore drenched, blood dripping Meatyard. The heavy, sludgy riffing lays the foundation as the deep and sinister entrails chewing vocals come pouring out of your speakers driven by the fury of the splattering drums. If you like your grind old school and gore drenched then you’ve found your match. I’m eagerly looking forward to their upcoming fullength.

However, I have stumbled upon these Dutch Maggots a couple of times in the past. Some of the stuff I’ve really liked while others could’ve used a tune-up. This material’s more pure grindcore than Meatyard, but definitely not without gore. The nasty humour-filled lyrics to the opening track tells the tale of Daddy Ghoul, the gore mob Tony that feeds on backstreet homiez and fuck their bitches while cutting of their heads. So I think you can kinda tell what to expect from this. Musically I’d say it’s not as satisfying as the first six songs on the CD, but these are still energetic, gored, moshing grindcore tunes that’ll get your body shakin’ and masturbatin’.
