Clair Obscur - Sombre Revelations

Pure Beauty - 95%

sexsuper3, August 13th, 2005

This is one of the rarest albums that I own. Clair Obscur is almost impossible to find anything about, or anything from. . .

That being said, it better be good if you are going to go to all the trouble of getting, right? Well I can definately say that this is worth the search, as this album is one of me favorite in my vast collection. To start off the album is the song "Petal," the song is somewhat slow throughout, but is haunting and full of atmosphere. The vocals inlay perfectly within the instruments to make something that is lulling yet very energetic.

The second track has a long intro into it before anything starts to really happen, as the momentum builds up to the vocals about 2:35 into it, your heart starts to race. The vocals here are sort of chanting as the momentum continues to build, and then at about 3:25 the screaming kicks in for a short moment; and that is your first taste of how the song will continue. It goes on with great atmosphere and ambiguity.

On the last track it again starts out slow, but picks up rather quickly compared to the others. The thing that really sticks out in this song is the guitar, they are tremolo riffing the entire time and it flows very evenly with the other instruments. Also very haunting and full of atmosphere.

With all this into account i love this album and am a very proud owner, because this is truly a great release. It hits on all of the points that make a good album good to me, especially the ambiguity throughout haunting you even after the album is through. Anyways I gave it a 95 because of all this, and if ever you come across this album for yourself, seriously consider getting it.
