Tjolgtjar - The Tjolgtjarian Mass

I hope he's not serious.... - 3%

VastiiaMortifera, July 10th, 2008

That's what I was saying throughout this ENITRE album. I almost wish, for JR Preston's sake, that Tjolgtjar is a joke band and not a serious project. Because this is downright terrible.

First off, the recording quality is atrocious. Now, I'm usually a fan of raw, choppy production, but this just surpasses that. It sounds as if it were recording on a broken tape recorder. The guitars are too low, the vocals are too high, and the cymbals are enough to make you go deaf.

The music matches the production. Atrocious. JR's vocals are a higher-pitched black metal vocals. And they're annoying. He sounds like he has something stuck in his throat during the entire recording, but decided to go on anyway. The drums sound really out of time and are poorly done. Very poorly done. I understand this is a solo project, but if you're bad at drums, you probably shouldn't do the drum duties for the album. Now the guitars...they're quite hard to hear at times because of the poorly done mixing of this album. But, the guitars are the reason I gave this album 3 points. Because when the guitars are actually audible, there are a few decent riffs here and there. They're usually short, and end up transitioning into something shitty, but they're there.

So basically, this album blows. Big time. If you're thinking about getting it, don't. This album is a major waste of time and should be listened to by anyone. Honestly.
