Alienation Mental - Ball Spouter - 75%

Pestilent, March 20th, 2004

Now I am no major fan of grind core but this band has impressed me somewhat. What struck me at first is the weird name for the CD “Ball Spouter” and the CD cover: some device emitting light and throwing out balls.

But other than this, these Czech grind core 5-piece have come out with a pretty decent full length to say the least. A lot of effort seems to have been placed into these songs – they’re damn heavy, fast and well brutal. They also added real weird intros and sampling all over the album. I like the work on the drums and guitar a lot – good for head bangers! Vocals are sick too. A song which I must comment about is “Children of South”. It starts with a brilliant catchy guitar riff which practically persists through the whole song. Then comes in the cool drum beat and yeah…sampling/scratching on the DJ board. You may say what the fuck is this? I don’t know – it’s cool and catchy to me though.Sound is good…sheer sickness and talent. Keep it up grinders in Alienation Mental.

One album that will blow your fucking head off - 95%

Absolutely essential for brutal fanatics who can't have it less than brutal, this is one fucking killer album. The drumming, guitar, and crazy vocals dominate almost all others, and leave you in the wake of destruction. Only downside is that it's a mere 30 minutes. But what a fucking 30 minutes it is, ladies and gentlemen.

Leading off with 'The Restricted Cerebral Capacity', a song that will come off as atmospheric to some brutal fans. All of that quickly changes about 35-40 seconds in, when the vocals start and the guitars and drums just start pounding this thick layer of noise down. This vocalist is...awesome. He's so guttural, almost no one comes close, except Ptoe from Lykathea Aflame and MAYBE a few others. He does these weird squealing noises sometimes, and they're really interesting, and have a nicely different pace to them that makes them almost as inviting as his low-as-shit vocals. 'Screw' is the next song, and is the 3rd best on the album. Starting with a weird little sound, it promptly begins to RIP YOUR FACE OFF. Even people who don't like brutal death can find something to like here, really.

The other 2 better songs are 'Psychogenesis' and 'The Scathing Feeling Inside Of Me' (1st and 2nd, respectively). These songs are just...crazy.

There's really not much else to be said here that I haven't stated already.

Just get the damn thing if you see it anywhere, for fuck's sake.
