Surrender of Divinity - Oriental Hell Rhythmics

Raw Thai carnage - 85%

Trell, March 9th, 2006

Well, I have waited and waited to get my hands on this album and I was not disappointed, this is True Blackmetal to the roots.
Seen from a Norwegian viewpoint, this is a great piece of blasphemy, should be labelled True Norwegian Blackmetal From Thailand (hehe).

*The style is just raw BM, this may be something for those that like early Immortal or Impaled Nazarene, fans of NSBM might also apply.

*Vocals are raw, ugly and grim, sounds like he is suffering.

*Guitars are distorted in a very raw manner, many great riffs and some riffs are mixed with Thai folk music.
The riffs don`t always stand out and can sometimes be hard to notice if you don`t listen to BM or extreme music.

*The drumming is consists of blastbeats, some simple fills and sometimes military style snare.
But compared to a lot of underground drumming this is quite ok drumming, it takes much stamina to play that long and aggresive over time, personally I can`t stand shabby drumming and I enjoyed the drumming, I also found some rather interesting and original fills.

*Bass is somewhat buried distortion, can be heard in some bridges etc just standard bass without effects or distortion, but when you can hear it, it gives much needed warmth to the riffing (this is after all from Asia).

The album consists of raw unpolished BM with a touch of Thai folk music and blastbeats.
The lyrics is almost like reading a satanic legend with an Asian theme and you can hear some Thrash influences on the album.
It never gets boring to listen to the album eventhough the songs are quite long (first track is 11 minutes and the rest of the tracks can vary from 5 - 7 min).
But if there is one thing that I didn`t enjoy is the lack of guitar solos, the guitarist has some really crisp riffs and I`d like to hear some great wankery but oh well, thats just clutching straws.

Production is raw in the true manner, it never sounds plastic and synthetic and like Wolfs Lair Abyss and other raw records, you can hear the drumming sometimes missing their mark, distortion etc the things that show the true quality of the music.
So if raw Blackmetal with great riffs is for something you like, I guess you won`t end up disappointed.

Standout tracks: Conquerors of the Apocalypse, Satan's Malicious Fire and Paradise's Brothel.
