Nunslaughter - Radio Damnation

Absolutely hilarious. - 100%

metaljerks, February 21st, 2009

Nunslaughter are one of my favorite death metal bands. They play old-school death metal with no frills whatsoever; no keyboards, clean vocals, hell, I can only think of a few songs they have which contain guitar solos. This album chronicles a live performance at the WRUW radio station, and the first thing that I noticed is that the production is much clearer here than on other Nunslaughter releases. Much of Nunslaughter’s previous work was muddy as hell, but the production here is pristine. The song titles and lyrics are hilarious, with the band performing songs like “Killed by the Cross,” “Death by the Dead,” “Obsessed with the Visions of a Satanic Priest”, and “Atheist Ways” (although that last one doesn’t really fit. It’s almost like they’re actually atheists who just use Satanism to troll Christians instead of actual Satan-worshippers).

But the best part of this album is the between-song stage banter. It’s an absolute riot, with vocalist Don of the Dead and drummer Jim Sadist performing the most hilarious Satanic schtick between songs. Highlights include Jim’s pedal breaking and Jim commenting that it must have been built by Christians, and Don and Jim describing the horrors of living in the hell of Pittsburgh. I heartily recommend this album, but it’s not going to win over anyone who’s not into this style of metal.

Satanic propaganda through the roof! - 65%

this was one of the first Nunslaughter releases I ever heard, and I don't think I had laughed that hard for a long time.

It's an album that you will only be able to listen to a few times and then you will get tired of all the talking and screaming between the tracks. I mean a little small talk isn't wrong at all, but when half the album is Don and Jim going on and on about how Satan and Metal rules it becomes tiering (even though we all know that Satan and Metal actually do rule, hehe).

Many that have listened to it complain about the guitar sound and that its bad but I don't see anything wrong in it, it sounds like a live guitar is suppose to sound for a old cult death metal band, dark and raw! its to bad that you can't hear the bass though, I always like the dusty sound of the bass on a live performance.

The choice of track list is excellent and is actually one of the few things that makes this album good. Starting with "Fire" is genius because its such a fast and heavy song that gets you in the mood for music, and then to end it all with a Venom cover summons up all the evil that Nunslaughter wanted to put in this album.

It could have been better but it is defiantly worth it to listen to it at least two times!

Well, well, well. Here we have the THIRD perfect blast reviewed here from BARBARIAN WRATH up in Deutschland. This band is probably the most humorous of the bunch but in that it is no less affective. The guitar tone is thick and chunky, the vocals (two singers = good stuff) are suitably acidic and the bass is churning and thick. This is TRUE DEATH METAL and it’s not for the weak at heart. If you want pretty garbage like the current scene puts out – you might want to run to the hills when these guys come around. This is the real deal. Seeing as this was a radio show (hence the title to those with at least three brain cells left) the SOUND is amazing and clear without losing ONE bit of the energy.

The songs themselves are quite amazing and filled with that long elusive (and quite classic) death metal groove. The tracks “Death by the Dead” and “I am Death” all burn brightly with a strong intensity that has been lacking in death metal for quite some time now. It’s actually hard to single any tracks out on this record as each one is worth listening too and this record is solid throughout.

The bottom line is simple. This CD is both the FUNNIEST thing (with the Satanic jesters putting on quite the show) and the HEAVIEST thing I have heard in quite some time. If you claim to like DEATH METAL and you can’t get into this…GET BACK TO YOUR STINKING PILES OF MODERN DAY WIMP GARBAGE. This is where DEATH METAL should be at these days…BUY IT NOW!!!
