Issued in a fully laminated and embossed box type sleeve that opens from the top and bottom and includes a large folded six pane color poster.

The band's logo for this album is the best known by all (besides the logo of the first album), and used by the band on their last tours, merchandising, subsequent releases, etc. The indie rock band Arctic Monkeys officially used a logo in the style of "Master of Reality" for use on their albums "Suck It and See" (2011) and "AM" (2013).

"Sweet Leaf" is street slang for marijuana.

On the North American version of the album, the song "After Forever" is subtitled "Including the Elegy" on the vinyl record, while the songs "Children of the Grave", "Lord of This World" and "Into the Void" are titled "Children of the Grave/The Haunting", "Step Up/Lord of This World" and "Deathmask/Into the Void". These last 2 are titled at the beginning of the main song.

Recording information:

Recorded at Record Plant in Los Angeles.

The looped coughing that serves as the album intro is Tony Iommi's.
