Hi, sorry if this has already been posted before, but I tried the search function and it doesn't appear to be working right now.

I recently bought a few Destroyer 666 albums, and I enjoy Aura Noir. I also like the thrashy black metal sound I hear on Darkthrone's 'Hate Them'. Are there any other good black/thrash bands that are similar to these few? (Absu's "Tara" is also really good in my opinion)

By the way, I have heard Sarcófago and Holocausto and they are not exactly what I am looking for.

Thanks in advance!

Should be in the black [or thrash] help threads, but..

Nocturnal is awesome, their album "Arrival of the Carnivore" is definitely worth checking out.

Vulture Lord and Amputator, both who take more black metal approach, are great thrashy black metal bands. MUST check them out.

Nifelheim [surprised you don't know of them] is a band who you would really enjoy. There are many more, but I'm kinda brain dead and stoned to keep going.. hope you enjoy these!

Bestial Mockery are one of the best thrashy BM acts out there, Gospel of the Insane is a fucking masterpiece.
Sauron (US) are also a good choice, they have two alabums, both very good.

EDIT: I was forgetting Fuck Off and Die!, who play crossover thrash/BM

Tyrant (the swedish ones) areprobably what you are looking for. They have an album out called The Rebirth which is an awesome piece of old school black/thrash a la Bathory, with a dirty production production and a very "live" sort of sound to it, with all the band playing at the same time. Definitely one of the most fun to listen and badass albums I've ever heard.

I don't know how I missed this one... a personal favourite!!

More good bands are Desaster, Sodom [obviously], Devastator [seconded from Bulleteater], and Nocturnal Breed. All are pretty damn awesome.

Nocturnal Breed and Aura Noir were the first ones to come to mind but they've already been mentioned. Maybe give Deathwitch a try?

You should check out Necrodeath. I haven't really listened to them because they're not really my style, but they're a black/thrash band.

You might like Melechesh, amazing middle-eastern influenced black/thrash.

Their latest, "Emissaries" is great.

Nobody has mentioned Nocturnal Graves or Kill For Satan (their full length, Thy Kingdom Undone... is fantastic). Both bands are in the same vein as Destroyer 666 and should be what you're after.

I often don't hear much of a distinction between black/thrash and black/death. Kill for Satan are quite thrashing to my ears and thought they were worth a mention.

Many of these bands are absolutely perfect. Exactly what I was looking for in a genre that doesn't house many bands. Thanks all, if anyone else has any suggestions, could you send the myspace/youtube links too? It makes my life easier :)

Thanks again.

I second, third, fourth, fifth and sixth Toxic Holocaust.

The obvious ones are Hellhammer and Celtic Frost ofc.
Tyrant, as CrippledLucifer mentioned is like Bathory raping Hellhammer which results in a dirty and ugly fucking baby. AWESOME :metal:

You misspelled Nocturnal Breed. :P

Seriously, I like Toxic Holocaust, but Nocturnal Breed is just amazing. Aggressor is their most "black" album, with Fields Of Rot being their most "thrash," but you really can't go wrong with them. Don't be put off by the organ usage in "Rape The Angels," they do not use them noticably elsewheres (and personally, I think they fit very well).

And just as a general thrash rec, Fields Of Rot should be in everyone's collection. It's one of the best thrash albums ever made, and I do not exaggerate.

A good black/thrash band in my book. They sound great live. So if you get a chance, you should check them out. They're self produced.

Great band, but these guys sound more like black metal with strong hardcore punk overtones, to me.

Thanks everyone for those great recommendations. I am currently loving Detroyer 666, Miserycore, and Desester to name a few. Anyway, I think this post should get stickied or something because I have seen alot of Black/Thrash rec threads and this one (I think) is one of the oldest ones. Lots of great suggestions in here.

MAN! You stole 3 of my recommendations in a single post!!! I can't believe this. These bands are awesome. I assume you mean Devastator from Florida, that is. I met them in the summer of 08, and saw them play the next day. They're awesome! Actually...Gosple of the Horns played that show too! Force of Darkness is exactly what you're looking for, too.

I also highly recommend Terrorist (from Texas). Bulleteater, you may like them too. They sound very similar to Devastator, but the guys are alot younger. Give them a listen :)

I'm proud of those of you who have mentioned Devastator. They are, in my opinion, definitely the best black/thrash band to have existed. Still though, if you haven't listened to Flagellator then you simply haven't heard black fucking thrash yet. Side project of Ahkenaten from Judas Iscariot. The vocals are pretty much pure black metal, while the riffs are mostly thrash based with an occasional tremelo break here and there to build up tension for the thrash parts. There are no words for me to explain how much energy and raw passion comes through on this record. Every riff is a fucking fist in the face of God, and the drummer sounds quite literally possessed. In strong contention for my favorite album of all time.

Bathory (Swe) - Blood, Fire, Death
Nocturnal Graves (Aus) - Satan's Cross
Nifelheim (Swe I think) - Self Titled
Blood Storm (USA) - The Ancient Wrath of KU
Absu (USA) - The Sun of Tiphareth
Sabbat (Jpn) - Fetishism/Karisma
Bestial Warlust (Aus) - Vengeance War til Death
Destroyer 666 (Aus) - Unchain the Wolves

There's some. Don't bother with Gospel of the Horns, hahaha.

Yeah, maybe if Atomizer didn't exist. Oh wait... split up... DAMMIT!

Anyway, I'm going over the recommendations in this thread though, I'd like to hear some specifics in the vein of Destroyer666 and Atomizer.

The Thrash element and attitude makes the music overall more fun to listen to than straight Black Metal (in my opinion), but I like the added aggression the Black Metal influence brings. So, that's what I'm looking for--as I run through this list.
