I know there are guitar-to-computer USB cables, but what do I do if I want to record my amp on a computer? Is this sort of stuff expensive?

USB mics are typically geared towards low budget rappers, voice-overs etc... if you want to not sound like total ass, either record your guitar direct through an interface, or buy an interface and a dynamic mic (AKG D5/D7, Shure sm57 etc) to mic your amp.
