I pulled off my own prank today on the archives, based on events.

Witchmaster is some rare black/thrash thrash I've heard which is a juicy medium rare rib eye in comparison too all the dried out minute steak cuts.

I'm trying to get some Queensryche and as I've heard here, their new and not so new stuff sucks. I might get a chance to see them this summer, do they usually know people want to hear their good stuff?

But holy shit is American Soldier awful. This is almost unlistenable.

End of 90ies, beginning of 2000. And the album is one hour long... should be real painful.

A lot of these songs sound like the slow atmospheric bits in Iron Maiden songs with vocals layered over them, and no climax to the build up. It's ridiculous. The ones that don't are just unspeakable awful mush.

It's strange how some musicians of experience, even with the free time they have to write songs, become poor songwriters.

Because he's so relentlessly serious. I've never seem him joke around in any sense except for some cutting remarks in the "Crappy Diem" thread.



Experience can't help you if you run out of ideas. I've done this with making maps for video games. After doing a few hundred you just run out of concepts to build maps around, even if the ones you're making are much better made than the older ones. The same applies to music, and results in bands jumping the shark or selling out. The average band seems to come up with three good (or at least, higher-quality than the rest) albums before starting to burn out.

Well, I want to know what the fuck happened to Vehemence after God Was Created. That album is a masterpiece that grabs you and throws you onto an emotional rollercoaster. Helping The World See is just a dull album with some cool moments here and there. The new songs they've been playing live and are on their MySpace are pretty shit too.

Eh, to be honest, I've never really given hell Symphony much of a chance. The last time I gave it a listen was before I developed a love for classic trad. metal and i even remember disliking what little trad./thrash metal I had heard at the time (particularly Megadeth), so maybe my tastes at the time have poisoned my view of the album. I have, of course, overcome my shameful distaste for 80's trad./thrash and even developed a great love for it (I do love my riffs thick and crunchy, after all). I'll give the album a spin tonight, maybe I'll feel differently about it. Might not change my mind about it, though. I am a rather picky, finicky bitch so if it isn't top fucking notch...
