This doesn't surprise me, the WBC is more of a cult than a "church."

They've attacked virtually all major religious traditions, Christianity included, and have denounced both the Catholic Church and the mainline Protestant churches (particularly denominations more tolerant/accepting of homosexuality, such as the Episcopalian Church in America which recently appointed a homosexual bishop, and certain Lutheran synods which have allowed for homosexuals to serve as pastors and clergy).

Its best to ignore them, the more attention you give these sorts of groups, the more they act out. This cult will die out soon enough.

While I shall not be going to this function, I say that anyone who is going bring some picket signs saying "Westboro Baptist Church are closet homosexuals" and just whack them with said signs.

It is a very distasteful and disrespectful misfortune, but as a lot of other users stated, it is the Westboro church. They're know for doing shit like this, although targeting Dio's funeral to me is certainly out of their court considering they usually show up at military funerals. Oh brilliant, these lunatics again. These are the guys that protested the funerals of American servicemen on the basis that they were fighting for a government which condoned homosexuality. Attempting to apply any logic to their arguments would be an exercise in frustration.

Personally, Christ's message was all about positive ideas of tolerance and respect for one's fellow man. He specifically spoke against this kind of aggressive, judgemental lynch mob bullshit.

You can find something to support any viewpoint in the Bible. It's not a coherent work, it's a compilation of different stories by different authors with different viewpoints, and each story is vague and poetic enough to be interpreted a number of different ways.

In any regard, I don't see how a personal attack was warranted. How childish.

Although I generally detest Michael Moore, he did have a pretty effective approach at dealing with these people. He essentially followed them around the country with a truck full of flaming homos and had them perform sexual acts in their presence, trying to see if they'd react with violence so that he could get them in court.

I'm not a promoter or blashemy, but a good course of action to get these people out of the area quickly is to perform some sort of open act of apostasy that would shake these people to their core. Just keep it within the bounds of protected speech.
