Rob Zombie is a big fan of horror films and named the band White Zombie in reference to the film White Zombie released in 1932 which starred Bela Lugosi.

The band broke up in 1998 after Rob Zombie released his first solo album, Hellbilly Deluxe.

Despite rumors to the contrary, John Ricci, who played with White Zombie in the late 1980s, is not the artist by the same name from Exciter.
