The band's name was changed from Storm to Taipan in August 1981, during the recording of their debut EP. They were forced to change the name to Taipan due to international copyright problems.

Taipan originally split-up in 1987 after Emilio Sarpa left without releasing an album. Up to 1987, they were managed by Alex Telman. The original line-up got back together ...
