Founded as Löwenherz ("Lionheart") in 1984 the band played only covers at first. In 1987 they changed their name to Manos. Besides their "serious" albums the band also released some fun albums in different musical styles.

In Germany they are best known for wearing giant cardboard chicken heads during their live shows.
