The name of the band was inspired by Demonaz of Immortal (Nor) after the Immortal demo track "Enslaved In Rot."

Enslaved formed out of the ashes of Phobia (Nor).

When Enslaved started, Ivar Bjørnson and Grutle Kjellson were 13 and 17 years old.
